Catching up!

Greetings!

It has been over 6 whole weeks since we last posted! Oh my goodness where has the time gone? Our apologies for our timeliness, but we promise we have a really good excuse:). Our days have been filled with attempting to construct some kind of routine with Charlotte. For the most part she's got a rhythm, although she is developing and changing so quickly that just when we think we're getting the hang of it, Charlotte changes the game up again. We have already had to put some of her clothes away that she has outgrown, she has slept through the ENTIRE night twice already, and she is on the brink of the all-important step of rolling over on her own now. Dad's work has been SUPER flexible and allows him to be home during the day and then trade off with mom for the evenings. We are learning new things every day: there aren't enough burp clothes in the world, the secret hypnotic powers of gentle but steady butt patting, and how to perform our normal day to day tasks using only one hand.

We had a wonderful visit from Nick, Laura, and Joey in February! They impressed us with their parenting skills as they fearlessly conquered diaper changes, spit ups, and soothing Charlotte (despite all the praise and cute pictures, she does get cranky from time to time). Charlotte had her biggest outing to date with them as we all spent an afternoon/evening in downtown Boston checking out all the cool history and eating amazing food. Mom and Dad are slowly perfecting the art of keeping Charlotte happy away from home.

We also were very excited to be visited by Great-grandmother Betty and second-cousin Pepper! They drove all the way from Illinois to enjoy the wonderful weather Massachusetts has to offer.

We are happy to announce that this Saturday, March 30th, Charlotte will be baptized at our church, House of Prayer Lutheran! Her Oma, Lynn, Grandma and Grandpa Phipps, and Godparents Doug and Stephanie will be traveling to Boston for the event. We are so excited to see everyone and celebrate Charlotte's baptism! Many pictures will be taken and posted on this blog (much faster than 6 weeks, we promise:).

Here are some photos for your enjoyment:

Two of the people in this photo just ate delicious food and one of them is wondering why they didn't get any.
Can you guess who?

Uncle Nick.

An assortment of pictures for your enjoyment!

Look mom, no hands! (there is a baby in there, trust me:)

"Does she have to go with us?"

"Ha ha Cooper, I get to go!"

"You want me to what?"

"Sing? Smile? Cry? Scream?"

"A little to the left."

"I don't think you know how to use that camera."

Plotting a nefarious deed.

"My head is so heavy."

This awesome shirt was a gift from Jen and April. Someday Charlotte will climb that mountain with Carrie and I.

It is easy to sleep when you're protected by a giraffe, a duck, and a grizzly bear.

Far.

Near.

"What happened to my clothes?"

We have been blessed with a bounty of visitors for the past several weeks. Grandma and Grandpa Phipps were the first to arrive and were closely followed by Oma Junke. They were an incredible help and allowed us to learn how to look like parents even though we didn't know what we were doing. Carrie and I haven't eaten that well in a looooooooooong time. Uncle Erik came next and Erik showed off his photography skills. Next Uncle Ryan, Aunt Candice, and Cousin Caleb showed us what the next eight months of our lives will look like (as well as the power of children's music:). Jess and Nic followed shortly after for a romp through historical Boston and Concord. All in all we were so grateful for the company and help...it definitely feels a little quiet in our house now! Enjoy these pictures and we will post some more soon!

Aunt Jess gets 'the look'.

A riddle: There are two sisters, two aunts, two cousins, a nephew, a niece, a daughter, and a son in a picture. What is the fewest number of people that could be in the picture?

Aunt Jess!

Uncle Ryan, Aunt Candice, and Cousin Caleb all came to balmy Massachusetts (it was minus 32 at their house!).

Grandpa Stan.

Oma!

Charlotte Comes Home.

Charlotte in 'Gilligan Mode'
I apologize to anyone who actually knows the Gilligan's Island theme song...

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from Boston city
Aboard a Jeep Liberty*                                             *(actually a Jeep Patriot but that wouldn't rhyme).

The mate was a mighty retailing man,
The teacher brave and sure.
Three passengers set sail that day
But the three became four, they soon became four.

So this is the tale of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.
The retailer and the teacher too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the frigid n'eastern nest.

There's Charlotte,
And Cooper too,
The retailer and his wife,
Here on Junke's Isle.

So again, I apologize if you actually know that song, or if you take offense to my poetic license. I can only claim to be under the influence of sleep deprivation and cuteness overload. Yesterday we celebrated a new year and Charlotte's two week birthday (she'll be driving before we know it:). The following will be an attempt to summarize the top 9 events that have transpired since that fateful day she was born:

9)    The world did not end on the 21st of December. Friggin' Mayans.
8)    Charlotte came home. Oh happy day!!!!!
7)    Cooper met Charlotte and he loves her. He wants to give her kisses all the time and he can't wait until she starts eating (i.e. dropping) solid foods. The biggest issue he has is discerning when our 'baby voices' are for him and when they are for Charlotte.
6)    Three Wise(wo)men visited. Sherry, Stan, and Lynn (Grandma, Grandpa, and Oma) flew in from around the country and saved the day. Not only are they indispensible founts of parenting knowledge (I mean, look at their kids!), but also are they amazing cooks, hard workers, and doting grandparents. Thank you!
5)    Charlotte went to church. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. She was a champ too! There were a couple of moments during a 'Jesu Bambino' duet when she wanted to know what the shreiking was, but other than that she slept well. At the very end of 'Silent Night' she let out a 'hurrah!' Perfect timing.
4)    Some of us have slept through the night. Charlotte is pretty good at snoozing out. But she gets hungry and there is only one of us who can help out with that. So you can guess who sleeps the best:).
3)    Charlotte is a scientific miracle. There is a Newtonian law somewhere that says that you can't create matter. And yet Charlotte takes only a miniscule amount of milk and produces...well...way more than she takes in.
2)    John and Carrie are diaper changing pros. We will take on any NASCAR pit crew and smoke them, mostly because we deal with way worse smells than any car produces...and those cars guzzle gas, they don't blow it out.
1)    Charlotte is amazing. Here are some photos to prove it:

Working on some 'magic'.

Our family.

"If you don't warm up that baby wipe I will kung fu you in the face."

3 Generations of Junkes.

Cuteness overload...

...and she knows it!
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, gifts, and warm wishes! We look forward to sharing with you more of our adventures in a more timely manner now that we're sleeping a little better:). Take care!

We are so excited to introduce you to Charlotte Faith Junke! She is amazing and beautiful and cute and loud and incredible and awesome. I am so proud of her mother who endured everything today with her unflappable spirit and graciousness. Both Charlotte and Carrie are resting and doing very well. There will be more to follow with the details of the day, but for now enjoy these photos. We love you all and can't wait for you to meet her in person!
